First Step

Every year thousands of Baylor Students give thousands of hours serving the local community.  How can you join this exciting tradition?

Whether you're a freshman, graduate student, or transfer student, First Step is an exciting event for all students starting their first year at Baylor! Held each fall, First Step offers Baylor students the opportunity to live out our core commitments to worldwide leadership and service.  Students will have the opportunity to serve in their new community and make long-lasting connections through this shortened form of a campus-wide day of service.

Returning students, faculty, and staff - want to pitch in?  Help us Load the Tote with school supplies for the students at the 5 Transformation Waco Schools (Alta Vista Elementary, J.H. Hines Elementary, Brook Avenue Elementary, G.W. Carver Middle School and Indian Spring Middle School)! If you are remote and want to mail supplies to Transformation Waco: Transformation Waco at 3005 Edna, Waco, Tx 76708.

First Step will take place on Saturday, August 20th from 10am - 12pm in partnership with New Student Programs. 

New students will be able to serve the community by:

These activities are restricted to incoming students and their Welcome Week Leaders:

• Assembling hygiene bags for local homeless shelters and other nonprofits 

• Decorating flower pots and labels for local elementary/middle school outdoor classrooms

• Creating encouragement cards to help local elementary/middle school students start their year

• Decorating and stuffing snack packs for a local pre-K program

These activities are open to all students, faculty, and staff from August 15th - August 24th:

  • Join the Freerice Baylor University Global Team to support the UN World Food Programme 

• Load the Tote School Supply Drive (every 5 school supply items donated  = 1 hour of service)

  • Benefits students at the 5 Transformation Waco schools
